A volcanic eruption occurred Tuesday afternoon in the Aleutian Islands at Mount Cleveland, 940 miles southwest of Anchorage. The stratovolcano has experienced on-and-off eruptions since last year, creating ash clouds reaching 20,000 feet above sea level. Tuesday, however, a nearby pilot claimed to have seen ash at 35,000 feet above sea level. Mount Cleveland is currently on orange alert.
