Performed in the Christ’s Hospital Chapel by Elliot Corner (Viola) and CH Head of Strings Timothy Callaghan (Violin), the Mozart Duo in G Major was written by Mozart as a favour to a friend who pretended he had written it himself. However, it is now one of the defining pieces of Violin/Viola duet repertoire. It is special because the Viola is usually playing the bassline. But in this piece, the Viola plays an equal part to the violin in melody and harmony.
This movement is the second of three, and is a beautiful slow tune on the violin accompanied by broken chords on the viola. It is a brilliantly simple piece.
